About Tallyscope
Tallyscope reads bank statements, shows every line, and tells you whether the numbers add up. It is built around two ideas: your documents should stay with you, and a converter should say when it is unsure.
Why it exists
Statements are the raw material of bookkeeping, tax returns, loan applications and personal budgeting, and they arrive in a mess of formats: PDFs that will not paste into a spreadsheet, scans, CSVs with different columns, and bank-specific downloads. Converting them is a chore, and the common tools have two weaknesses. They upload your documents to someone else's server, and they hand back a spreadsheet without telling you which numbers to doubt.
Tallyscope was built to fix both. The files are processed in your browser. And every statement is tested against its own running balance, so the result carries evidence rather than only confidence.
Principles
- Local first. Parsing, OCR, verification and conversion run in the browser tab. The site ships a strict Content-Security-Policy that limits which hosts the page can contact. The exceptions are small, optional and documented on converting without uploading.
- Honest statuses. A statement is Verified, Partly verified, Needs review or Unverified, and a status is never raised without arithmetic evidence. Repairs to scanned numbers are applied only when the digits equal what the balance requires; otherwise they are offered, never silent. How verification works explains it with an example.
- No bank templates. The reader works from headers in about 15 languages and from page geometry, so it is not tied to a list of supported banks, and it makes no guarantee about any particular bank.
- Numbers are computed, not generated. The assistant's answers are calculated from your table in the browser. AI only helps turn a question's wording into a query, and reading your table with AI is opt-in and paid.
- Plain limits. We say what the free plan includes, what a paid plan adds, and where the tool cannot help, such as statements with no balance information.
What it is not
Tallyscope is not an accounting package, a bank, an auditor or an adviser. It does not give financial, tax or legal advice, it does not prove a document is authentic, and it does not store your statements for you. It converts, checks and summarises documents that you provide.
Who uses it
Typical uses are preparing a year of statements for a tax return, reviewing months of statements before a mortgage application, merging accounts from several banks, converting scans to Excel, and turning bank formats such as MT940 and camt.053 into something a person can read. We do not publish user counts, testimonials or ratings, because we would rather you test it on your own file.
Who runs it
Tallyscope is operated by Tallyscope. You can reach us at support@tallyscope.app; see also the terms and privacy policy.
Contact
Questions, bug reports, a statement that will not convert, or a privacy request: support@tallyscope.app. When you report a conversion problem, please describe the layout rather than sending the statement itself; there is no need to email us a document containing personal data. A synthetic or redacted sample is ideal.
The product is improving all the time and the pages here are kept in line with what the app does today. Open Tallyscope to try it.
