Frequently asked questions

What is Tallyscope?

A browser-based bank statement converter. It reads statements in many formats, shows every transaction in one table, checks each statement against its running balance, and exports to CSV, Excel, PDF or JSON.

Which files can it read?

Text PDFs, scanned PDFs, password-protected PDFs, JPG, PNG and TIFF photos or scans (with built-in OCR), CSV and other delimited text, XLSX, XLS and ODS spreadsheets, OFX and QFX, QIF, SWIFT MT940, ISO 20022 camt.053 and plain text reports.

Do I have to pick my bank?

No. There are no bank templates. The reader finds the transaction table from its headers, recognised in about 15 languages, and from the layout of the page.

Are my statements uploaded?

No. Files are read in your browser tab and are not uploaded or stored. The few things that do use the network are listed on the page about converting without uploading: exchange rates, optional OCR language models, account and billing, and the optional assistant features.

What does Verified mean?

The rows of the statement agree with its printed running balances and totals, which proves each amount and its direction. It is arithmetic evidence of consistency, not an audit and not proof the document is genuine.

What do the other statuses mean?

Partly verified: some of the statement is proven. Needs review: some rows disagree with the balances and are flagged. Unverified: there is no balance information to check against.

How accurate is it?

It depends on the document, so we publish no percentage. Clean text PDFs and structured files convert reliably; poor scans may not. What you can rely on is that unproven rows are flagged and the status does not claim more than the arithmetic shows.

Does it work on scanned statements and phone photos?

Yes, using OCR that runs in your browser. Rotated and skewed pages are corrected. Heavy blur, glare or very low resolution can leave rows wrong, and those rows are flagged.

Can it combine several banks and currencies?

Yes. Load any mix of files; duplicates from overlapping periods are detected, transfers between your own accounts are excluded from totals by default, and you can view everything in one reporting currency at live exchange rates.

What does the AI assistant do?

It answers questions about your table, such as totals, comparisons and recurring payments. The numbers are always computed in your browser. If the built-in engine cannot understand a question, the wording of the question, not your transactions, may be sent to an AI model to turn it into a query.

Does the AI see my transactions?

Not by default. On the Day pass and Pro plans there are opt-in Advanced AI features, where a masked version of your table is sent to Google Gemini. Account numbers, IBANs and card numbers are masked by pattern; names and descriptions are not removed.

What does it cost?

There is a Free plan. The Day pass is EUR 9 for 24 hours, and Pro is EUR 19 a month or EUR 159 a year. See the pricing page for what each includes.

Is there a page limit?

No. Plans limit how many files you can load at once: 10 Free, 25 Day pass, 50 Pro.

Can I get a refund?

See the refund policy. In short: subscriptions can be cancelled any time, and EU consumers have a statutory right of withdrawal subject to the digital-content waiver explained there.

Does it connect to accounting software?

No. It exports CSV, Excel, PDF and JSON files that you can import elsewhere.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, from inside the app with Delete account. See the privacy policy for what is removed.

Try it on your own statement

Free to start. Your files are read in your browser and are not uploaded.
