Convert QIF files to CSV
QIF is old, simple and still offered by some banks. Load a QIF file, get clean dates and amounts, and export a CSV, without uploading anything.
What QIF is, and why it is awkward
Quicken Interchange Format is a line-based text format from the 1990s. A file starts with a header such as !Type:Bank, and each transaction is a group of lines starting with a letter: D for the date, T for the amount, P for the payee, M for the memo, N for a cheque number or reference and L for a category, closed by a ^ line. It is easy to read and has no standard for dates: one file writes 03/04/26, another 3/4'26, and whether that is 3 April or 4 March depends on the software that wrote it.
Dates and amounts
Tallyscope reads the date text and infers day-first or month-first from the whole file: if any date has a first number above 12, the order is clear. Missing years are inferred from the surrounding data where possible. Amounts with thousands separators and either decimal convention are normalised, and the exported dates are ISO (YYYY-MM-DD) so a spreadsheet cannot misinterpret them. When a file is genuinely ambiguous, for example every date has both numbers 12 or below, treat the day-first or month-first guess as something to check. The date display format can be switched in Settings.
No balances, so no proof
A typical QIF bank file contains no opening, closing or running balances. Without them, Tallyscope has nothing to check the amounts against, and the statement is shown as Unverified. The rows are still extracted and the totals are still computed from them, but the page does not call them verified. If your bank offers a PDF statement with a running balance as well, load both: the PDF can prove the amounts, and the QIF gives you clean text. See how verification works for what each status means.
Exporting
CSV has Date, Statement, Account, Description, Category, Currency, Debit, Credit, Amount, Balance, the amount in your reporting currency, Counted in totals and Flags. The first 25 rows are free; the Day pass and Pro plans export all rows and add Excel, PDF and JSON.
Merging with other files
Load QIF files together with CSV, OFX, PDF or other formats. Overlapping files are checked for duplicates and the combined table can be filtered, searched and exported as one. See merging statements.
Privacy
QIF files include payees and memos, which can be personal. The file is parsed in your browser and not uploaded. More at converting without uploading.

Frequently asked questions
How are QIF dates interpreted?
Day-first or month-first is inferred from the data in the file, and exports use ISO dates. Genuinely ambiguous files should be checked.
Why is a QIF statement Unverified?
QIF normally has no balances, so there is nothing to prove the amounts against. The rows are still extracted.
Can I fix categories?
Yes. You can edit text and category on a row in the table before exporting.
