Free bank statement converter: what the Free plan includes
Tallyscope has a Free plan with no time limit. It reads up to 10 files at once, shows every transaction and the verification status, and exports a CSV preview of the first 25 rows.
What the Free plan gives you
"Free" is only useful if you know where the edge is, so here is the whole list. On the Free plan you can:
- Load up to 10 files at once. They can be text PDFs, scanned PDFs, password-protected PDFs, photos, CSV, Excel, OFX, QIF, MT940 or camt.053 files, mixed in any combination.
- See every transaction in one merged table, with search, filters and row details. The table is not cut off on the Free plan; only the export is.
- Get the verification status of each statement (Verified, Partly verified, Needs review or Unverified) and see which rows disagree with the printed balances. Paying does not change how strict the check is; see how verification works.
- Use the built-in OCR for scans and phone photos, and the built-in assistant that answers questions about your table with numbers computed in your browser.
- Export a CSV of the first 25 rows. That is enough to open the file in a spreadsheet and judge whether the columns and amounts are what you need.
There is no trial clock. The Free plan does not expire, and there is no page limit on any plan: plans limit how many files you load at once, not how many pages a file has.
What needs the Day pass or Pro
| Feature | Free | Day pass or Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Files at once | 10 | 25 (Day pass), 50 (Pro) |
| CSV export | First 25 rows | All rows |
| Excel, PDF and JSON export | No | Yes |
| Advanced insights and insight filters | No | Yes |
| Advanced AI features (opt-in) | No | Yes |
The Day pass costs EUR 9 once and lasts 24 hours. Pro is EUR 19 a month or EUR 159 a year. The full comparison, with billing details, is on the pricing page.
Do I need to sign up?
You can start on the Free plan without paying, and you can add files straight away. An account is only needed for the paid plans, so that your plan can be recognised. Payments are handled by Stripe and the site never sees card details.
What happens when you go over 10 files
Files beyond the limit are not read, and the app shows a message that names the limit and the plans that raise it. Nothing is silently dropped. You can remove a file to make room for another, and a sample statement does not count toward your plan.
Try it without a statement
If you do not want to load a real statement yet, the app has a sample statement made of invented data. It includes one planted balance slip, so you can see how a flagged row appears in the Review tab and how the proposed fix works. Like your own files, it is handled entirely in the tab.
Privacy is the same on every plan
The Free plan is not a lighter, more exposed version of the product. Files are read in your browser tab on every plan and are not uploaded to a server; the page is served with a strict Content-Security-Policy that limits which hosts it can contact. The few network uses, such as exchange rates and the optional assistant, are listed on converting without uploading. The opt-in Advanced AI features, which can send a masked version of your table to a third-party model, are a paid feature and are off by default.
A sensible way to use the Free plan
- Load your messiest statement first. A clean statement proves little. A scan, a long statement or a multi-line layout shows how the reader copes.
- Read the status, then the flagged rows. A statement marked Verified has had every row proven by the running balance. Anything else tells you where to look.
- Export the CSV preview and open it in your spreadsheet. Check the date format, the debit and credit columns and the signs.
- Decide what you need. If the whole statement fits within 25 rows, the Free plan is already complete for that job. If you need every row, or Excel, a Day pass covers a single job without a subscription.
Where the Free plan is not enough
A year of statements for a tax return or a mortgage pack usually has far more than 25 rows, and you may want an Excel workbook with per-statement and summary sheets. That is the use case for the Day pass. The guides for tax returns and mortgage applications describe those jobs.
The limits are product limits enforced in the page, not security boundaries, because processing happens on your own device. They are stated plainly instead of hidden. If one blocks a legitimate job, write to support@tallyscope.app.
